SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama Phantom Lawyer continued to draw attention with an emotional episode centered on Yoo Yeon Seok and Choi Won Young.
According to Nielsen Korea, the April 25 episode recorded an average nationwide rating of 6% and reached a peak of 7.4%. Among the key 20 to 49 viewer group, the episode recorded a household peak rating of 1.95%.
In the episode, Shin Yi Rang, played by Yoo Yeon Seok, began looking into the truth about his late father, prosecutor Shin Ki Joong, played by Choi Won Young.
Shin Yi Rang became confused after hearing claims that his father had caused someone’s death in the past and had lived under the label of a corrupt prosecutor.
Unable to hide his pain, Shin Yi Rang told Shin Ki Joong, “Because of you, someone died, and the people who survived suffered for a long time.”
Han Na Hyun, played by Esom, noticed his change and stayed by his side, saying, “Just let me stay next to you.”
Park Kyung Hwa, played by Kim Mi Kyung, also sensed that the spirit near her son was her husband but did not reveal it. Instead, she supported Shin Yi Rang’s choice and said, “I believe your father, but even if your thoughts are different, I understand and respect them.”
As Shin Yi Rang searched for the truth, he heard another shocking claim that Shin Ki Joong had been a prosecutor connected to gang members.
However, after remembering how his father trusted him when he was young, Shin Yi Rang chose to believe his own memories instead of other people’s words.
In the emotional ending, Shin Yi Rang faced Shin Ki Joong and confessed through tears, “You are my father.” The scene showed the father and son slowly repairing their broken bond.
The episode later revealed more questions surrounding Yang Byung Il. He was shown trying to stop Shin Ki Joong’s spirit from appearing, while it was also revealed that he had allegedly pushed a Chinatown merchant to give false testimony. His son, Yang Do Kyung, began secretly listening in to uncover his father’s hidden truth.
With its emotional father-son story and rising mystery, Phantom Lawyer left viewers curious about how Shin Yi Rang and Han Na Hyun will face the truth behind Yang Byung Il’s actions.
