BTS member V drew attention after a short moment of him humming a song reportedly convinced a producer that it would become a success.
American producer Tyler Spry, who worked on BTS’s 5th full album Arirang, shared his experience in an interview, explaining the process behind selecting the title track “SWIM.”
He said the team spent weeks searching for the right sound, noting that some early tracks felt “too pop style” and similar to past hits like “Dynamite” and “Butter,” before they found a more fresh direction.
Speaking about V, he expressed strong admiration, saying, “V is really warm and kind, and his tone is incredibly good,” adding that despite some language barriers, he was “a very fun person” in the studio.
Regarding “SWIM,” he described it as a calm track, explaining that it is not very dynamic but still “very addictive.” He admitted that at first, people were unsure about the song, saying, “It didn’t feel like a big hit song.”
However, his perspective changed after a small moment in the studio. He shared, “About two weeks later, I went to grab coffee and heard V humming ‘SWIM SWIM.’ I don’t think he knew I was listening. That’s when I thought, ‘This feels right. This song might be a big hit.’”
V’s vocals were also highlighted as a key part of the album, helping enhance the overall mood of the songs. His performance received attention for adding depth and emotion, further supporting the producer’s confidence in the track.
The producer also recalled working with V as one of the most memorable parts of the project, describing the studio sessions as enjoyable and creatively free, leaving a lasting impression.
