Park Myung Soo is drawing attention after strongly praising BTS’s recent Gwanghwamun concert, saying the event’s impact goes far beyond whether it can be judged as a simple success or failure.

During the March 23 broadcast of KBS Cool FM’s Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show, the comedian and host reacted to a listener’s playful message comparing him and BTS as stars “approved by Gwanghwamun,” which made him laugh before he quickly made it clear that the scale was completely different.

Park Myung Soo said it would be “embarrassing to compare,” but fondly recalled that his own radio show had also held two public broadcasts at Gwanghwamun in the past. He shared that while his events drew around 2,000 to 3,000 people without any major national promotion, BTS’s concert was on a completely different level.

What especially caught attention was his strong defense of BTS amid online debate over whether the concert should be judged as a “success” or not.

Park Myung Soo said, “There are people saying whether the BTS Gwanghwamun concert was a success or not, but just think about how much they promoted the country’s image,” adding, “Korea’s Gwanghwamun is being broadcast to 196 countries around the world. That cannot be measured with money.”

He then gave BTS even bigger praise by saying, “Only BTS can do that,” emphasizing that the global scale and symbolic value of the event made it meaningful in a way that goes beyond numbers alone.

He also mentioned his personal connection to BTS members Suga and Jin, and jokingly complimented Jin’s visuals by saying, “Jin’s face must be preserved or something. He is so handsome.”

Meanwhile, BTS held their comeback celebration concert BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on March 21, with the event streamed worldwide through Netflix.
