IU is already drawing major attention with her upcoming MBC drama, and Perfect Crown is quickly becoming one of the most talked about new series before its premiere.
The new MBC Friday Saturday drama has officially confirmed its premiere for April 10, and much of the early buzz is centered on IU’s casting and the return of a royal style drama setting that MBC has not revisited in 20 years.
IU is already coming into the project with a strong track record. She previously led the drama You Are the Best! to a peak rating of 30.8%, and she has continued building her reputation through hit projects like My Mister, Hotel Del Luna, and When Life Gives You Tangerines. Because of that, many viewers are already watching closely to see what kind of impact she will have this time.
The actress shared that she chose Perfect Crown because she was drawn to her character Sung Hee Joo, describing her with the keywords “greed, temper, and cuteness.” She also raised expectations by saying the character will show many different charms and a strong never give up attitude.
IU openly admitted she is feeling pressure ahead of the premiere, sharing, “I’m worried and nervous, but the biggest feeling is excitement because so many people are looking forward to it.” She also added, “I hope it becomes a drama that viewers can enjoy all the way to the end.”
Set in a 21st century constitutional monarchy version of Korea, Perfect Crown is already getting extra attention because it marks MBC’s return to a backdrop that many fans remember from the network’s 2006 hit Princess Hours, which became widely known for its royal fantasy setting.
With IU’s proven ratings power, strong early interest in the concept, and growing curiosity around her new role, Perfect Crown is already shaping up to be one of April’s most anticipated K dramas.
Perfect Crown premieres on April 10 at 9:40 PM.
