Park Seo Joon has finally shared his honest thoughts following the mixed reactions to the ending of JTBC’s weekend drama Surely Tomorrow.
After the drama wrapped up, Park Seo Joon addressed viewers who felt confused or disappointed by the ending. He explained that the finale was open to interpretation, but personally felt that the story’s hints were already planned and properly resolved.
“There can be many interpretations of the ending, but I think the writer wrapped up the hints well,” he said, adding that an early line in the drama already suggested how the story would close.
Rather than focusing on shock value, Park Seo Joon shared that the ending was meant to deliver an emotional message. “Death comes suddenly,” he said. “When I thought about what this situation means for the characters, it felt like it was telling them to treasure the present and be honest with their feelings.”
Surely Tomorrow marked Park Seo Joon’s return to romance dramas after several years. He shared that he spent most of the past year fully immersed in the project and found the story meaningful on a personal level.
“I believe there are many forms of love in the world,” he said. “This drama gave me time to deeply express a story about devoted love, and it also made me reflect on my own life.”
The actor also explained why he chose the project, saying the long-term romance story strongly appealed to him. He felt that portraying this kind of love at his current age was the right timing and hoped the drama would encourage viewers to think more deeply about the meaning of love.
Despite the debate surrounding the ending, Park Seo Joon made it clear that he stands by the work. “I had many worries while filming,” he admitted. “But after seeing the finished drama, I have no regrets at all. I only feel proud.”
He added that his biggest hope is that the drama reached viewers in some meaningful way. “I wanted this project to reach as many people as possible,” he said. “We had such a good team, and I hope it stays with everyone, even just a little.”
Surely Tomorrow ended its run earlier this month, leaving behind strong emotions, discussion, and a lead actor who remains confident and satisfied with the journey.
