Actor Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team has made strong statements against the late Kim Sae Ron’s family and Garo Sero Research Institute’s Kim Se Ui, saying they acted together in spreading false information.
On November 18, Kim Soo Hyun’s lawyer Ko Sang Rok from Phil Law Firm shared a detailed post titled, “My organized position on lawyer Bu Ji Seok’s claims – and the many lies of the fake aunt.” In it, he pointed out contradictions between the family’s claims and their actual actions.
“After March 10, while Kim Se Ui continued to spread malicious false information, the family did not stop him. They even helped by providing materials and appearing on broadcasts. Our clear position is that the family acted as accomplices in Kim Se Ui’s actions,” Ko stated.
He also criticized the so-called “fake aunt,” who claimed to represent the family early in the case. “Her public statements and actions clearly show she worked together with Kim Se Ui, which highlights her involvement in the false narrative.”
Ko added, “Lawyer Bu Ji Seok’s repeated statements since the March 27 press conference actively supported and spread Kim Se Ui’s false evidence and fabrication claims. Whether the parents were involved should be determined through investigation.”
He warned, “We have no intention to get involved in disputes between the family and Kim Se Ui beyond pointing out clearly proven facts. However, if they again share private materials or push the same false accusations, we will respond immediately using all possible methods and hold them fully responsible. The family and lawyer Bu Ji Seok must understand they cannot shift responsibility to Kim Se Ui for any additional illegal actions.”
The legal team also highlighted the inconsistencies in the “fake aunt’s” statements. On March 12, she gave two opposing interviews on the same day: in the afternoon with The Fact, she said the late actress started dating Kim Soo Hyun as an adult. Later that evening in a Garo Sero livestream, she claimed the dating started while Kim Sae Ron was in high school.
Ko explained that these actions, along with repeated provision of photos and chat logs to Kim Se Ui, show active collaboration in spreading false narratives. He added that even if the materials were not explicitly described as “taken when she was a minor,” her actions still misled the public and constituted accomplice involvement.
He concluded by emphasizing that while the legal team will not intervene in the conflict between the family and Kim Se Ui, they will respond immediately if private matters are again shared or false frames repeated, holding the family fully accountable.
