HYBE and Geffen Records’ global girl group KATSEYE (Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae) has opened up about facing serious online threats.
According to BBC on November 12, the group revealed that they have received death threats from more than 1,000 people since their debut last year, along with malicious comments targeting their families.
In the interview, Lara shared how frightening the situation has been, saying, “I try to tell myself it’s not important, but when 1,000 people are sending you death threats, it feels threatening. Even if it doesn’t actually happen, it still feels heavy.”
Lara, who is of Tamil Indian descent, also spoke about experiencing racist comments and false accusations about her visa status in the U.S. She added that she stopped using X (formerly Twitter) to avoid seeing hate messages.
Sophia also expressed her frustration, saying, “Our career is still short, but we’ve already heard so many things about our families. We know fame comes with exposure, but it doesn’t change the fact that we are human.”
Manon added briefly, “It feels really scary.”
Fans have shown concern and support for the group after the report, expressing hope that KATSEYE will stay safe and continue their activities without fear.
