‘Squid Game’ actor Oh Young Soo has been found not guilty in his appeal trial for indecent assault, overturning the earlier decision that sentenced him to prison with probation.

On November 11, the Suwon High Court officially cleared Oh Young Soo of the charges, reversing the first trial’s verdict that gave him 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension.

The court stated that although the victim reported the case months later and there were suspicions surrounding the incident, there wasn’t enough solid evidence to confirm that the assault took place.

The judges explained, “If there is doubt about whether the defendant committed the act, the ruling must favor the defendant.”

The case dates back to 2017, when Oh Young Soo was accused of making inappropriate physical contact with a woman in Daegu. He consistently denied the allegations and appealed the original ruling made in 2022.

Following the new verdict, Oh Young Soo’s name has been cleared. The veteran actor gained worldwide fame for his unforgettable role as Oh Il Nam, also known as the “Gganbu Grandpa”, in Netflix’s mega-hit series ‘Squid Game’.

He also made history as the first Korean actor to win Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globe Awards.
