BIGBANG’s G-Dragon got honest about his time as the group’s leader and reflected on the challenges they faced as one of K-pop’s most influential acts.

During his appearance on MBC’s Son Seok Hee’s Questions 3 on November 5, G-Dragon was asked whether he believed BIGBANG became a “model example for future idols.”

He responded with honesty, saying, “We wanted to be, but we couldn’t.” He continued, “If it were a math problem, the answer sheet would say 1 plus 1 equals 2 — but it was Jiyong (me). So, it wasn’t the correct answer. We weren’t the perfect example.”

When the interviewer indirectly mentioned former members Seungri and T.O.P, who both faced public controversies in the past, G-Dragon calmly shared, “Whether it was their mistakes or personal issues, that’s separate from my role as leader. But when something like that happens — whether it’s my fault or not — the whole team gets shaken. That was the hardest part for me.”

Despite the difficulties, G-Dragon expressed his gratitude and surprise at how far the group has come. “We’re preparing for our 20th anniversary,” he revealed. “I never imagined we’d reach this point. Honestly, it feels strange — I’m not expecting a 30th anniversary, but now I can’t help but think about it a little.”

With his candid remarks, fans praised G-Dragon for his humility and maturity, calling his reflection “proof of true leadership.”
