Director Shin Jun recently shared the reason he chose Song Ji Hyo for the lead role in his upcoming mystery occult film The Savior.
During a press interview held after the movie’s screening at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall on October 22, the director revealed that Song Ji Hyo’s big, expressive eyes were what drew him to cast her as Sun Hee, the film’s main character.
“I enjoy watching Running Man, but I still remember watching Wishing Stairs about 20 years ago,” he said.
“That memory of her performance was so strong. I felt her big eyes would fit well with the mysterious and emotional tone of this film.”
He added, “Sun Hee is a woman who holds back her desires until they finally come out. I thought Song Ji Hyo could show a side of herself that viewers haven’t seen before.”
The Savior follows Sun Hee, a woman slowly losing her sight after an accident, who moves with her family to a village called Obok-ri, where strange and unexplainable events begin to unfold.
The movie is set to premiere in theaters on November 5.
