Actor Rowoon shared funny and shocking behind-the-scenes stories from a recent underwear photoshoot that went viral for showing his armpits.
During an October 15 interview at a café in Seoul for the Disney+ original series “The Murky Stream” (written by Cheon Seong Il, directed by Chu Chang Min), Rowoon admitted, “I didn’t think it would become such a big topic.”
He explained, “I realized we have to keep up with the times. We are in a job where we are seen by people. Since it’s an advertisement, we released the shots according to the brand’s approval. We chose the cuts that matched the image of the brand,” laughing as he spoke.
After the photoshoot, Rowoon had to reshape his body for his role as Jang Si Yul in The Murky Stream. “After the underwear shoot, I lost body fat, but the director said he wanted the body to feel like a stray cat — not a perfectly sculpted body, more like a wild look."

He added, "He said having a six-pack would be too unrealistic. After I rebuilt my body and asked, ‘Is this okay?’ he said, ‘It looks perfect,’ so I immediately ate two hamburgers,” he recalled.
Rowoon also revealed that his weight increased sharply after filming, and he recently went on a strict diet. Appearing slimmer than at the press conference, he said, “The reason I gained weight was just that my mom’s food was delicious. Before joining the military, my mom fed me well.”
He added, "When I saw my face, I was shocked. A senior even told me, ‘You gained so much weight.’ Hearing that shocked me. So I lost 8kg in just a week. I had to take photos before joining the military. I just starved myself.”
Meanwhile, The Murky Stream, starring Rowoon, is an action drama about people with different dreams trying to survive in a corrupt world along the Gyeong River, where all money and resources in Joseon gather.
The final episodes 8 and 9 will be released on October 17.
