Actor Kim Kang Woo got honest about his fears of artificial intelligence after working on Korea’s first AI-powered movie, “The Middle Realm”.

At a press conference held on October 13 in Seoul, Kim Kang Woo shared that while he was both excited and nervous about the project, his biggest concern was whether AI could one day replace human actors.

He said, “When smartphones first came out, we didn’t know how important they’d become. Now, we can’t live without them. I think AI will be like that, too.”

However, when asked if he truly believes AI could take over acting, Kim opened up about his initial worries. “Honestly, as an actor, I was scared at first and thought, ‘What if this makes our jobs disappear someday?’” he said.

“But after working on this film, I realized that actors can’t be replaced. I agree with director Kang Yoon Sung — the human touch and emotion are something AI can’t copy.”

The Middle Realm, directed by Kang Yoon Sung, is Korea’s first full-length movie created with AI technology. The film, set to premiere on October 15, follows the story of souls trapped between life and death and the grim reapers chasing them.

Kim Kang Woo’s reflections show a mix of curiosity and confidence — a reminder that even as technology evolves, the art of acting still belongs to the human heart.
