Actress Yum Hye Ran is melting hearts once again — this time not through a drama, but through her honesty and humor.
Earlier this year, Yum Hye Ran earned massive praise for her emotional performance as IU’s on-screen mother in Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines. But in real life, the actress revealed that her actual daughter sees her very differently.
In a recent interview, Yum Hye Ran laughed as she shared, “My daughter doesn’t see me that way because she knows the real me. After we argue, she says, ‘People should know what you’re really like!’ and sometimes complains, ‘Mom, all my friends think you’re such a good person.’”
Fans found the story both touching and funny, especially since Yum Hye Ran’s motherly image in the drama had moved countless viewers to tears.
The actress also opened up about her new transformation in the upcoming film It Can’t Be Helped, directed by Park Chan Wook, where she plays a more mature and sensual character named Ara. “I didn’t think I had a sensual side,” she admitted. “But the director said it would be more fun to see someone unexpected in this kind of role, so I decided to trust him — and myself.”
Yum Hye Ran added that she worked hard to portray the role authentically. “I got nail extensions, wore wigs, paid attention to my clothes, and even went on a diet. I wanted Ara to represent a woman who doesn’t give up on herself, even with age.”
Ending the interview, Yum Hye Ran expressed her deep love for acting, recalling her early struggles. “There was a time when I had to do part-time jobs just to keep acting,” she said. “Now I look back and think, ‘I’ve come a long way.’ I’m proud that I built this career step by step doing what I love.”
