tvN’s hit weekend drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty may have wrapped up on September 28, but fans are still talking about the chemistry between YoonA and Lee Chae Min.

Director Jang Tae Yoo, who led the project, recently opened up in an interview where he shared his gratitude to both stars for bringing their characters Yeon Ji Young and Lee Heon to life so perfectly.

Jang Tae Yoo admitted that just doing one genre like cooking or historical drama is already difficult, but YoonA and Lee Chae Min handled everything — cooking, sageuk, comedy, and romance — throughout the cold winter and hot summer filming.

He praised, “Now I can’t imagine Ji Young and Heon without YoonA and Lee Chae Min. They did so well, and I’m so thankful.”

One of the most loved moments of the drama was the romance at Unyoungjeong pavilion. The director explained that this was the scene where Ji Young finally realized her feelings and kissed Lee Heon.

He revealed why the team chose the same pavilion where the Episode 4 drunken kiss happened, saying it showed how the emotions had deepened. He added that the cherry blossoms falling during the kiss symbolized the world blessing their love.

The director also recalled how the first episode showed Ji Young and Heon eating gochujang butter bibimbap together after hardships, calling it one of the most meaningful scenes because of its simplicity and warmth.

With the drama’s global success, including topping Netflix’s Non-English TV chart, Jang Tae Yoo believes the romance and chemistry between YoonA and Lee Chae Min played a big part in capturing viewers’ hearts.

He ended by once again thanking the two leads, emphasizing how their performances left a lasting impact.
