Kim Go Eun opened up about a deeply personal reason why she cried during the press conference for her new Netflix series You and Everything Else.

On September 22, the actress met with reporters in Seoul and shared her thoughts on the drama and the emotions she carried while playing her character Eun Jung.

You and Everything Else tells the story of Eun Jung and Sang Yeon, two friends who go through love, admiration, jealousy, and pain from their teenage years to their 40s, only to meet again at the final moments of life after several separations.

Kim Go Eun takes on the role of Eun Jung, a woman who grew up with little but carries a strong spirit. She delicately portrays the complicated emotions between Eun Jung and her closest friend Sang Yeon, played by Park Ji Hyun.

During the press conference, Kim Go Eun unexpectedly broke down in tears. Explaining why, she revealed, “It’s a sensitive story, but in 2023, I lost some of my closest friends in a short span of time.”

She continued, “What’s strange is that in 2023, the projects I worked on were Love in the Big City and You and Everything Else. It wasn’t planned, but both were stories about friendships in your 20s.”

She added, “I think of 'You and Everything Else' as a story where the one left behind, Eun Jung, tells Sang Yeon’s story. She reads Sang Yeon’s diary and shares both her life and her own.”

Reflecting on one of the drama’s most emotional moments, she said, “When Eun Jung follows Sang Yeon to Switzerland, her heart is saying, ‘I want to send her off well.’ It was also a chance for Eun Jung. In life, it’s not easy to say goodbye properly to someone you loved and cherished.”

She added, “But in that last moment, she could say, ‘You worked hard’ and ‘You endured well.’ Of course, it’s painful for the one left behind, but maybe it helped her put down some of the burden in her heart. Thinking of that brought out a lot of emotions.”

Her honest words have touched fans, who praised her for connecting her own personal loss to such a moving performance on screen.
