Super Junior member Choi Siwon has addressed the heated controversy following his tribute post to the late Charlie Kirk.

On September 12, through the fan communication platform Bubble, Choi Siwon explained his actions, saying, “He was a Christian, a head of a family, and a husband."

He added, "Whatever the circumstances, losing his life from a shooting while giving a lecture in front of many college students is a heartbreaking tragedy, regardless of political beliefs. That is why I mourned him.”

He also clarified why he later deleted the Instagram tribute, sharing, “I’m grateful for the media’s interest, but since my intentions seemed to be interpreted differently, I felt that my heart had already been conveyed enough, so I removed the post.”

The controversy started on September 11 when Choi Siwon uploaded an image of Kirk with the words “REST IN PEACE” to his official Instagram. The post quickly drew mixed reactions, as Kirk was known in the U.S. for opposing gun control and making discriminatory remarks.

Choi Siwon, a well-known devout Christian, has often shared his faith publicly. Still, his tribute to Kirk sparked debate among fans, with some even calling for his withdrawal from Super Junior.
