Lee Min Jung has revealed the real story behind her breakup and reunion with her husband, actor Lee Byung Hun.
On September 9, the actress uploaded a new video on her YouTube channel Lee Min Jung MJ titled “From golden spoon rumors to Boys Over Flowers casting, I’ll tell you everything.”
Looking back on her past, Lee Min Jung shared, “I met oppa (Lee Byung Hun) right before Boys Over Flowers (2009) became a big hit.” The two eventually married in 2013, welcomed their first son in 2015, and had a daughter in 2023.
She explained, “We dated for about a year, then oppa had to go abroad for more than a year. At that time, I was just starting my career. Oppa thought, ‘Is it right for me to hold her back?’ So he said, ‘Let’s say bye and break up.’ But for me, it was like, ‘How dare he?’ I didn’t see any reason to break up. Just going abroad for a year isn’t a real reason. For me, breaking up meant the love was gone.”
Lee Min Jung confessed that she immediately cut contact, but Lee Byung Hun kept reaching out.
“He suddenly started calling me from overseas, but because of the time difference, the calls came at weird hours. When he called, I’d turn off my phone or not answer. The next day, I’d text, ‘Sorry, I was sleeping,’ or ‘I was busy,’ or sometimes I didn’t reply at all. I just left him on read.”
Fate eventually brought them back together. “When I was nominated for Best New Actress for Cyrano Agency (2010), I ran into oppa at the award show. He gave me a little eye greeting, but I acted like, ‘Huh? Who are you?’ pretending not to know him. After that, little by little, we met again and reunited.”
Her honest and funny behind-the-scenes story has fans laughing and swooning over the couple’s journey back to each other.
