ZEROBASEONE’s leader Sung Han Bin has apologized after facing criticism for his behavior on a variety show.
On September 6, comedian Kim Dae Hee’s official YouTube channel Kkondaehee uploaded a video featuring Sung Han Bin and fellow member Seok Matthew. The group recently made a comeback on September 1 with their 1st full album NEVER SAY NEVER.
During the video, Seok Matthew revealed, “Han Bin hyung always has this clean image. But whenever we drive, he makes a funny sound when we go over a speed bump.” When Sung Han Bin asked what sound, Matthew laughed, saying, “Wow, pretending not to know.”
Sung Han Bin explained, “When you hit a speed bump too hard, your butt hurts, right? Among us, there’s this little meme. Just to make the members laugh, I go ‘Euhh—’” before imitating a sound that resembled a female moan.
Matthew teased further, saying, “That’s a lie. After the bump, he goes, ‘Ahh why why why why—’” exposing more of his antics. Sung Han Bin then playfully imitated a high-pitched female voice again and laughed, saying, “I’ve already given up.”
The clip quickly drew criticism from viewers who found his actions inappropriate. On September 7, Sung Han Bin addressed the issue directly on fan communication platform Bubble, writing:
“Ah.. on Kkondaehee, I went too far. I really had no bad intentions, but maybe I was too greedy for variety show airtime. If any Zeros (our fandom) felt uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize. I’m sorry.. Let’s work on speaking better, Sung Han Bin.”
Fans have been sharing mixed reactions online, with some expressing disappointment while others appreciated his quick apology.
