Actress Son Ye Jin recently faced unnecessary buzz online after a playful comment at her movie press event was misunderstood, but the mother of the young actress involved has now spoken up to clear things.

At the production briefing for the film No Other Choice (directed by Park Chan Wook) on August 19, Son Ye Jin shared how becoming a mother in real life helped her portray the role naturally.

Her co-star Lee Byung Hun jokingly added, “The little girl who plays our daughter kept asking us questions. I tried to answer, but I couldn’t keep up. Son Ye Jin, however, never answered even once.”

Son Ye Jin explained she had many lines to memorize and was focused on the director’s directions. However, the lighthearted joke spread online and was misinterpreted.

On August 24, Choi So Yul’s mother clarified the situation through social media, saying, “I was also surprised by how this spread. It was just a funny and playful episode that was told as a joke. We felt it was unfair to see it turned negative. The fact is, she was very kind.”

She also reminded fans of Son Ye Jin’s thoughtful gesture, when she gifted So Yul a special toy, writing, “The best Christmas gift ever.”

With her words, fans were reassured that Son Ye Jin’s caring side was genuine both on and off set.

Meanwhile, No Other Choice will premiere on September 24. The film tells the story of Man Soo (Lee Byung Hun), a man who suddenly loses his longtime job and struggles to protect his family and home.

Son Ye Jin plays his wife Mi Ri, a strong character who stands by her family through hardships.
