Song Joong Ki is stepping into a heartfelt new role, trading fantasy adventures for flowers and romance in JTBC’s upcoming Friday drama My Youth.
On August 12, the production team released still cuts of Song Joong Ki as Sun Woo Hae, a man whose story is filled with warmth, nostalgia, and the bittersweet glow of first love.
My Youth follows Sun Woo Hae, a former child star who burned out too soon and began living an ordinary life much later than others. Now working as a florist, his days start early at the flower market and end surrounded by potted plants — a peaceful existence that contrasts with the deep shadows of his past. But everything changes when his 19-year-old first love, Sung Je Yeon (played by Chun Woo Hee), unexpectedly reappears, bringing noise and color back into his quiet life.

The drama is a reunion of acclaimed talent — directed by Lee Sang Yeob (Yumi’s Cells, Familiar Wife) and written by Park Si Hyun (Run On), promising an emotional and beautifully told romance.
In the newly released photos, Sun Woo Hae’s calm smile among blooming flowers hints at a man quietly rebuilding himself, while also hiding secrets — including his work as a novelist under a different name.

Explaining why he chose this project, Song Joong Ki shared,
“When I read the script for My Youth, I felt warmth right away. I liked that it’s a warm melodrama full of human emotions, something I haven’t done in a while. Unlike the fantasy-heavy characters I’ve played before, Sun Woo Hae is grounded in reality, and that really resonated with me.”
Episodes 1 and 2 of My Youth will premiere on September 5 at 8:50 p.m. KST, airing back-to-back every Friday. The series will stream in Korea on Coupang Play, in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa on Viu, and in the Americas, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, and India on Rakuten Viki.
