Actor Heo Seong Tae surprised everyone with the small number of members in his official fan cafe, even after his global rise to fame through Squid Game.
On the August 9 episode of MBC’s Hangout with Yoo (Episode 292), the show continued searching for members of “Insamo”, short for “a gathering of famous but not popular people.”
Yoo Jae Suk, who met a candidate with Lee Yi Kyung, shared, “Honestly, I’m not sure if this person should be here. Isn’t he more of a world-class star?” Lee Yi Kyung quickly replied, “Well, he’s world-class… but not that world-class. I think so, and I think he knows it too.”
The mystery guest turned out to be none other than Heo Seong Tae. Upon receiving the invitation, he jokingly called out, “Mom,” before honestly admitting, “But I’m not popular either.”
When Yoo Jae Suk mentioned hearing about his fan cafe, Heo shyly said, “It has about 30 members.” But the production team revealed that the number has since grown to 52, prompting Yoo to laugh and congratulate him, saying, “It doubled!”
Heo then revealed a funny detail that made everyone laugh. “We’ve been holding a ‘100th visitor event’ in the cafe… but since there are only 52 members, we’ve been running it since 2023,” he said.
The actor then joked, “It makes me want to cry,” leading Yoo to comfort him by saying, “Those 52 people are really precious.”
