“We stopped meeting because it got awkward… all from a fake love rumor”
On the latest episode of MBC's Radio Star aired on August 6, god’s Son Ho Young opened up about an unexpected dating rumor from the past involving top actress Song Hye Kyo — and how it ended a good friendship.
During the episode, singers Kim Jang Hoon, Bobby Kim, Jo Sung Mo, and Son Ho Young joined as guests and shared behind-the-scenes stories from their careers.
Son Ho Young looked back and said, “Right after I debuted, I had many friends, and I was really close with Hye Kyo. She liked meeting people, and we often hung out at get-togethers. We had a fun and natural friendship.”
However, everything changed when a dating rumor between him and Song Hye Kyo suddenly broke out. “I still remember the article headline — it said something like ‘Pink friendship.’ After that, things got really weird,” he said.
He continued, “Back then, if a scandal happened, it would shake the whole company. We weren’t even allowed to be seen in the same place with a female celebrity.”
The singer admitted that the situation made things uncomfortable between them. “Even though we were just friends, we ended up drifting apart. It became hard to see each other again,” he shared with some regret.
He also revealed another odd moment when fans created wild rumors about him and fellow god member Yoon Kye Sang. “There were fanfics going around that said I was dating Kye Sang hyung. Someone even made fake pictures of us holding hands or kissing,” he said, laughing at the memory.
At the time of the Song Hye Kyo rumor, Son Ho Young tried to clear the air by asking, “Are you saying I shouldn't even meet my friends?” Song Hye Kyo also denied it, saying, “We don’t see each other as a man or a woman,” making it clear there were no romantic feelings.
Despite the false rumor, fans are now remembering this once-close friendship — and how fame can sometimes make even the most innocent friendships fade away.
