Oh My Girl’s Arin opened up about the pressure and worries she faced while starring in the bold fantasy thriller S Line.
On July 28, Arin sat down for an interview with SPOTV News after the finale of the Wavve original drama S Line. She honestly shared, “I had a lot of worries trying to handle this bold genre.”
S Line tells the story of a mysterious red string—called the “S Line”—that suddenly appears, connecting people who’ve had a sexual relationship.
The lines are only visible to certain people, including Arin’s character Hyun Heup, who has a unique ability to see them. As the red lines begin to appear, secrets and desires are slowly revealed.
Arin played Hyun Heup, a quiet and emotionally reserved young woman who slowly changes after seeing the world through her strange ability.
She surprised fans by fully transforming into the role with a short haircut and barely any makeup, adding to the realistic feel of the character.
“I felt a lot of pressure because this genre is very different from the roles I’ve played before,” Arin confessed. “I kept wondering, ‘Can I really pull this off in a natural way?’”
She continued, “Since we only had six episodes, we tried to show as much story and emotion as we could. Personally, I think there could’ve been more, but I’m happy with how it turned out. Everyone worked hard, and it was a fun project.”
When asked about the romantic and slightly daring scenes, Arin explained, “Those parts were important to the story. We talked a lot with the director to make sure they were done in a respectful and natural way. It was challenging, but we kept everything within the right limits.”
Arin also shared how her transformation helped her become Hyun Heup. “I watched the drama with my family, and they said, ‘We forgot it was you!’ That made me really happy,” she said with a smile.
“They told me Hyun Heup didn’t feel out of place. I think it’s because I’m usually quiet and enjoy being home alone, so I could really relate to her.”
Through S Line, Arin says she learned something important about acting: “I realized you don’t always need to force emotion. Sometimes, being calm and natural can also be a charm. I feel like I showed a new side of myself with this character. I’m really thankful for that.”
