Two top actors, Lee Sung Min and Kang Ha Neul, are confirmed to lead the much-awaited sequel to the blockbuster hit Ode to My Father.
On June 5, it was revealed that director Yoon Je Kyoon, known for touching hearts with the 2014 film Ode to My Father, is now moving forward with Ode to My Father 2. The new film will feature Lee Sung Min and Kang Ha Neul as the main stars.
The original Ode to My Father was one of Korea’s biggest hits, drawing over 14 million viewers. It followed the life of Deok Soo (played by Hwang Jung Min), who lived through major events in Korean history starting from the Korean War.
The emotional story and powerful performances left a lasting impact on audiences.
Now, Ode to My Father 2 returns after 11 years with a new story. This time, the focus will shift to Seong Min, a Korean miner in Germany and Deok Soo’s old friend, and his son Se Ju. The movie will take viewers through major moments in Korean modern history, including the 1987 democracy movement, the 1997 IMF crisis, and the 2002 World Cup.
Lee Sung Min, who recently impressed with Spring in Seoul and Handsome Guys, will play the role of Seong Min—a quiet yet loving father who gives everything for his family. Fans are already excited to see Lee’s signature emotional acting.
Kang Ha Neul will take on the role of Se Ju, the youngest son who finds his voice after experiencing the pro-democracy movement while attending Seoul National University. Kang’s recent projects, like Opposition Party and Your Taste, have earned him praise, and this movie is expected to continue his successful run.
This also marks a special reunion for Lee Sung Min and Kang Ha Neul, who first worked together in the popular 2014 drama Misaeng. This time, they’ll portray a deep father-son bond for the first time on the big screen.
Ode to My Father 2 is set to begin filming in the second half of 2025, with a planned release in 2026.
The script has already drawn interest from industry insiders thanks to its strong emotional and commercial appeal.
The movie will be produced by JK Film and distributed by CJ ENM.
