• Miyeon opens up about cold treatment from I-DLE members and how BLACKPINK’s Lisa secretly supported her

I-DLE’s Miyeon recently opened up about feeling left out when she first joined the group—and how BLACKPINK’s Lisa secretly reached out to help her behind the scenes.

On the May 17 episode of MBC’s variety show The Manager (Episode 347), I-DLE members gathered to reflect on their early days as a group and how they overcame the well-known “7-year curse” in K-pop.

During the show, leader Soyeon looked back on when Miyeon first joined Cube Entertainment. “We were cautious of Miyeon because it felt like she replaced a vocal friend who was already with us,” she admitted.

Miyeon replied honestly, “To be honest, you guys gave me a cold welcome.” Surprisingly, the members agreed without hesitation. She then pointed out that Yuqi and Minnie were especially tough on her at the time.

Minnie didn’t deny it and said, “I wasn’t joking back then—I was a huge boomer,” making everyone laugh. She explained, “I was the main vocal and the oldest at the time. Then someone my age came in, and she was also a main vocal.”

Miyeon recalled those awkward early days, saying, “At Cube, only debut team members were allowed to use electronic devices. But I had trained at another company for five years, so I thought the rules were a bit silly. I told the company, ‘I need a laptop to practice,’ and got permission to use one.”

This caused a stir among the members. “We were shocked,” Miyeon laughed. Minnie chimed in, “I didn’t get to use a laptop for three years!”

Yuqi also remembered how Miyeon stood out from day one. “Trainees at Cube could only wear leggings, sneakers, and plain T-shirts. But Miyeon unnie came in wearing Dr. Martens and a leather jacket. She looked like a total celebrity,” she said, making everyone laugh.

Miyeon, who previously trained under YG Entertainment and was once rumored to be the “second CL,” was already well-known before joining I-DLE.

That’s when Minnie revealed a sweet behind-the-scenes story: “When Miyeon came to Cube, Lisa from BLACKPINK messaged me and said, ‘My friend is coming to your company. Please take care of her.’”

Miyeon was shocked. “I didn’t know that,” she said, clearly touched. “But Minnie did take good care of me, just like Lisa asked. I was really moved.”

Fans are now praising Lisa for her kind heart and loyalty, and Minnie for keeping her promise.
